rate of water loss from the skin of the hippo is much more than that of other
animals and about 3 to 6 times that of a human beings

secrete a fluid that is produced by glands under skin which help in regulation
or control of the body temperature and so acting like sweat which control their
body temperature
ü This
fluid(Red pigment) is held by the mucous on the Hippos skin and when dry it turns
to be like brown color often seen on hippo
ü Researchers
has it that this red pigments may act as Sunscreen or antiseptic that prevents growth of harmful bacteria
