Discover Naivasha- Crater Lake and Cray Fish Camping Experience

Making Life Changing connections is what we do here at Wild Springs Adventures. Saturday the 11th of February 2017 was such a day, whereby a group of adventure seekers got the chance to explore Naivasha as a tourist destination. It was a two day one night, mind blowing experience at the Cray Fish Camp, Naivasha. Evidently from the never ending recounts from the adventurers, Cray Fish Camp is a must visit destination for all.

On the D-Day we met at the usual joint, you know the renowned Jeevanjee gardens at 0730hrs. As usual we gave time allowance for the African Timers to finally arrive and by 0800hrs we set off for our final destination.  Along the Nairobi Naivasha Highway, we stopped at the Rift Valley Viewpoints. I still can’t get enough of the breathtaking views no matter how many times I have been there, trust me lots of times. Every time that I am there, I guess the view gets even better than the last. There is a saying nowadays that if you don’t ‘snap’ it, it never happened. So we took lots of photos here and there, exercising our photographic skills, having the background as Mt Longonot as well as Mt Suswa and Mt. Margaret in a distance

The smallest catholic church in East Africa
We then proceeded along the Mai Mahiu road. En route we passed by the smallest Catholic Church in East Africa, the Travelers Chapel. Rich in history, the church was built by Italian Prisoners of War who needed a place to worship during the British regime. Fun Fact, only twelve people can fit in the church during a normal mass. The Italian Architecture is evident from the symbols as well as the painting and the Latin engravings on the wall. Photoshoots as well as weddings and baptism ceremonies can be done here.Somehow being on the floor of the Rift Valley, everything is more magnified. The ginormous Mt Longonot, I had already highlighted our fun filled sheer adventure, adrenaline rush hike at the mountain. You should check it out.  Here is the link ( http://wildspringsadventures.blogspot.co.ke/2016/11/sheer-adventure-with-complete.html )
We stopped again at the Buffalo Mall Naivasha, did some shopping. It was time for those who forgot their toiletries to do so. We grabbed some dry snacks to munch on while we did our activities.

I know we’ve stopped lots of times but this was our official stopover, Crater Lake Naivasha.  The hike was just exhilarating, amazing. The richness in birdlife, wildlife is so evident. A few times we spotted giraffes ambling here, warthogs chasing their tails there. We actually heard a leopard’s purr during our hike. We had another stop over, I know right, too many, had our packed lunch.
We were sweaty, hungry and tired and that’s not nice. Thank the heavens for the caterers. We enjoyed some Swahili Dishes, Masala Fries, Mineral water and Fruits. After we had replenished ourselves we had the final steep hike. I learned the real meaning of an uphill task, literally. All you birdwatcher’s out there this is just another paradise of its own. We recorded over 100 bird species.

We headed to the Cray Fish camp, finally

We set up our tents on the camping ground. It was exciting, hilarious as people had no clue on how to pitch tents, literally no idea.  Fortunately our crew came to the ‘rescue’ and we were done in a jiffy.
We got the chance to freshen up.

The most fun thing was cooking our own supper; it was a bonding session for us as a group. Some of the guests had the ultimate African Experience cooking the African Cake “ugali” There was more bonding at the Bonfire, telling tales and stories, reminiscing the day that was.We then proceeded to watch a movie on the projected screen as the night faded away

The next morning, we woke up, still sore from the hike but nothing was going to put us down. We took our breakfast early. Then we had the day to ourselves. We started with a swim at the swimming pool. Then we went for a boat ride at the lake Naivasha, the birdlife too is amazing.. We headed back to camp and packed our bags, unpitched the tents, took one final view of the area and then we set off for our journey back to Nairobi…
Posing for a photo as we waited the boat crew to be ready...
